PARENTS > CONFIRMATION

Session 1: At Home This Week

Welcome!

Dear parents or guardians,

Thanks for all that you do! Being a parent requires tons of self-sacrifice.  Most of what you do for your child is seen by no one, and often not even appreciated by your child!  But THANK YOU.  On behalf of the faith community to which you belong--the Catholic Church--thank you!  Because of you--and only because of you--your child will grow up Catholic....

Learning about Confirmation

Here's a video explaining why we are confirmed, by our friends at Busted Halo. It is does not assume Confirmation in Restored Order, but most of it talks about Confirmation in a general way.

The video assumes an adult audience (so it is probably difficult for your child to understand).

A Quick Review of the Sacraments

Take two minutes to get a quick review of the seven sacraments in this video from Video Catechism.

You can watch with your child.

God Chooses ME

In this first session, we focused on how confirmation is part of a lifelong process beginning with baptism:
  • At Baptism, we become a special friend of Jesus and part of the Church, God's family.
  • The Holy Spirit comes to us in special ways at Baptism and Confirmation.

Review the lesson with your child.  Look through the handouts with your child, asking what he or she remembers or has questions about.

Learning to Pray

Praying at Home

Picture
The last page of your handout this week offered one idea for praying this week: short example prayers to use when waking up, before meals, when you need God's help, when something good happens, and at bedtime. Make a plan for this week for praying at those times, using those words or others.
